Eve Adams, former Conservative MP, joins Liberal Party

Toronto-area MP Eve Adams has left the Conservatives to join the Liberal Party after describing the Prime Ministers leadership as “mean-spirited”. In a prepared statement, Adams said that she “can no longer support mean-spirited leadership that divides people instead of bringing them together.” According to Adams, we need a “kind, generous and strong leadership that champions shared vision for how to make Canada work for everyone.” It seems that that leader is Trudeau. Adams announced her decision at a press conference alongside Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, who said he understood how challenging the decision was for Adams. “She wanted to be her community’s voice in Ottawa, not the Prime Minister’s voice in her community,” he said. Adams had supported the Conservative party since she was just 14 years old, though she seemed to have no trouble outlining the issues that led her to leave the party. Adams mentioned that her decision to join the Liberals “is not about having a tough day at the office.” The tough decision she made cost Adams her Albany Club membership. She received a letter the day that she joined the Liberals that stated “The exclusive social and business club for those who influence, celebrate, debate, and promote Canada's conservative and political history, ideals, values and leadership. In light of your announcement today, please accept this letter as a termination of your membership." Adams would like to consider serving Canadians, and believes “Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party offer the most positive, hopeful leadership available.”

In this CBC article, the Conservative party is portrayed as “mean-spirited”, while the Liberals are portrayed as inclusive and positive. There is some bias in this article as it is mainly quotes from Adams, who is leaving the Conservatives to join the Liberals, and Trudeau, who is the leader of the Liberal Party. The author of the article, Kady O’Malley, has always been involved in politics as her father worked as communications director for the NDP and her mother worked as a government economist. O’Malley currently works with CBC News as an author for the Inside Politics blog.
