Economic Platform

“A Liberal Government will:

Create jobs by granting Employment Insurance credits of $1300 for businesses that hire new workers. Under our plan, up to 175,000 new jobs could be created.

Ensure smart, sustainable investments in Canada’s infrastructure to create jobs, increase productivity, attract investment and improve our quality of life.

Work closely with the provinces to enhance the Canada Pension Plan to ensure retirement security for all Canadians.”

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Trudeau laid out his economic priorities if he were to move into 24 Sussex Drive - education, trade and infrastructure - and made clear that he would like to return to a more interventionist federal government. The Liberals believe that a market system regulated by the government is best. They believe that the government is motivated by public interest; therefore, they need to protect citizens from the greed of big businesses.

“We need a different kind of federal leadership – responsible, balanced and progressive.” The Liberals want to see more investments in learning, caring for children and loved ones who are sick, and jobs. They believe that these are priorities for middle class families and for a strong economy. They also want to see economic growth in the following:

  1. Clean Resources

    • Exports of harvested products

    • Management and consumption of resources

  2. Health and Biosciences

    • Focus on research to bolster innovation in health and bioscience

    • Improve the health of Canadians

    • Bring Canadian products to global markets

  3. Digital Technologies

    • Must continue development to keep pace with competitors

    • Make digital technologies a Canadian Champion Sector
